Mission Bay San Francisco's Contemporary New Neighborhood Mission Bay was historically an industrial area populated by shipbuilding and repair warehouses, butchery and meat production, a sugar refinery, oyster and clam fishing canneries, and a convenient place to deposit refuse from building projects. This until the area's redevelopment not too long ago in 1998.
Today, the neighborhood has evolved into a wealthy area of luxury glass-and-steel high rise condominiums, disruptor tech companies, billion-dollar-privately-financed basketball arena, and leading biotech companies. The area is 304 acres, situated on the east side of San Francisco, bordered by China Basin to the north, Dogpatch to the south, and San Francisco Bay to the east.
It is home to the Golden State Warrior Stadium at Chase Center, Uber HQ, Dropbox HQ, UCSF, Kaiser Permanente, Nektar, Bayer, and over 70 biotech companies. ![]() The aim of this newsletter is to show you the different districts of San Francisco as every neighborhood has its own distinct vibe, culture, and offerings. San Francisco is a world-class city that is only 46.9 square miles, though it's not uncommon to feel as though you've entered into a completely different realm when you've just crossed over into a different neighborhood.
I would like to cover San Francisco neighborhood by neighborhood. This week, I bring to you, Mission Bay. I hope you enjoy it!

Is it a Good Time to Buy in San Francisco? This year, Lyft was the first to head to the stock exchange to kick off an IPO with the Securities and Exchange Commission. It apparently beat out its rival, Uber, though Uber is not too far behind. 2019 is said to be a year of Tech IPOs as Pinterest, Uber, Airbnb, Palatir and Slack have also announced issuing IPOs, resulting in market experts from all over predicting a surge in real estate property values once again in the Bay Area as thousands of new millionaires are minted.
Examining a few years back in 2012, when Facebook issued an initial public offering, an increase of 21% in home values was reported by Zillow in “census tracks where Facebook employees were most likely to live.” At the same time, there was a 17% increase in all other Bay Area census tracks that year.
![]() This year, several tech companies are in line to go public, and they all happen to be headquartered in San Francisco. Experts say that property owners in the city and surrounding areas may likely see strong appreciation, a rise in their property values, in the years to come.
